Ugandan citizens need a Dubai visa issued before travel; Uganda is on the UAE's visa required list. On the UAE suspended all new visas, visit visas included, for nationals of Uganda, DR Congo and South Sudan as an Ebola precaution (Gulf News). On the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, with the health ministry and ICP, announced it was easing the measures for Ugandan nationals after the outbreak there ended; Khaleej Times reported it as the visa ban being lifted. The measures remain for DR Congo and South Sudan.
Where things stand
| Item | Position |
|---|---|
| Visa needed in advance? | Yes, Uganda is visa required |
| Ebola suspension of new visas | Eased for Uganda, late September |
| Same measure for DR Congo and South Sudan | Still in place at the last report |
| Visa on arrival through a foreign residence | Not available to Ugandan passports |
The UAE's crisis authority said the measures are kept under review. If anything changes again, it changes fast. Ask whoever applies for you to confirm the category is open on the day they file, and check with your airline if your route touches DR Congo or South Sudan.
The two routes
A relative in the UAE sponsors you
The relative applies to ICP for a visit visa of 30, 60 or 90 days. They need a minimum monthly income:
- AED 4,000 to bring a parent, child or spouse
- AED 8,000 for a sibling, cousin, aunt or uncle
- AED 15,000 for a friend
The sponsor pays ICP's fees and a refundable guarantee, AED 1,000 for single entry or AED 2,000 for multiple entry. You must enter within 60 days of issue.
A Dubai tourism establishment applies
For a holiday without a sponsor, an accredited travel agency or hotel in Dubai applies to GDRFA. The fee is AED 210 for 30 days or AED 315 for 60 days, single entry; AED 315 or AED 525 for multiple entry. GDRFA's conditions are a passport valid 6 months, an onward ticket and UAE-valid health insurance. Source: GDRFA, checked .
Earlier reports of limits
Separately from Ebola, Ugandan officials confirmed in that the UAE had tightened visa rules for Ugandans, as reported by East African media, without a published UAE government statement. We could not confirm what applies now. This is another reason to have the category confirmed before you pay.
Before you pay anyone
- Ask which visa type is being filed: GDRFA tourist or ICP visit.
- Ask for the government fee as a separate line.
- Make sure your passport has 6 months left.
- Keep travel insurance that covers the UAE.
After issue, check the visa yourself on the GDRFA tool explained on visa status check. Overstaying costs AED 50 a day: overstay fine in Dubai.
