The UAE golden visa for students goes to top school leavers and recent graduates. You need at least 95% in secondary school, or a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or 3.8 at a UAE university depending on its classification, or 3.5 from one of the world's top 100 universities. Graduates must apply within 2 years of graduating. In Dubai, GDRFA issues it for a permit fee of AED 1,100.
The three student tracks
| Track | Grade needed | Other conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Secondary school | At least 95% or equivalent | Licensed public or private school; certificate authenticated by the Ministry of Education |
| UAE university | GPA 3.5 (Classification A) or 3.8 (Classification B) | Ministry-licensed bachelor's; graduated within 2 years; authenticated by the Ministry of Higher Education |
| University abroad | GPA 3.5 | Top 100 in the Ministry-approved ranking; graduated within 2 years; authenticated by the Ministry of Higher Education |

The classification of a UAE university decides whether 3.5 is enough. Ask your university which class it sits in before you count on the lower figure. The u.ae portal also mentions certificates of excellence and recommendation letters from the school or university, so ask for one when you collect your transcript.
Documents GDRFA asks for
School students
- passport copy
- secondary school diploma showing at least 95%
- copy of a Dubai-issued residence permit
- ICP approval
UAE university graduates
- passport copy
- copy of a Dubai-issued residence permit
- ICP approval
International university graduates
- passport copy
- Dubai residence permit copy, if you already hold one in the UAE
- ICP approval
The approval comes from the relevant ministry through the ICP system, or as a nomination from the competent local authority. GDRFA also says the student permit needs a residency file issued by Dubai, so a student on a residence from another emirate should check with ICP before applying in Dubai.
Authentication is the step that takes longest for graduates from abroad. A degree from outside the UAE usually needs attestation before UAE authorities accept it. Our certificate attestation in Dubai page walks through that route.
What it costs
| GDRFA item | Fee |

| Residence permit fee | AED 1,100 |

| Applying from inside the UAE | AED 500 |
| Delivery | AED 20 |

On top of that:
- Medical test for anyone aged 18 or over. The Dubai fee is AED 270 for the normal service and AED 700 for VIP in 6 hours. A school leaver under 18 skips it.
- Emirates ID, at AED 100 per year of residence plus a AED 100 smart fee, set by ICP.
Published price lists and cost guides of Dubai PRO firms, consultancies and free zones, checked , put the government part of non-property golden visas at about AED 2,900 to AED 5,000 including the medical and a 10-year Emirates ID. The golden visa cost page breaks that down line by line.
5 years or 10: the official pages disagree
GDRFA Dubai's student page says the permit is valid for 10 years. The u.ae portal says 5 years for high school achievers and 10 years for top university students. We cannot tell you which one GDRFA will print on a school leaver's permit. Check the duration shown on the application before you pay.
There is a second conflict on renewal. GDRFA's issuance page says student permits are not renewed after they expire. GDRFA also runs a separate renewal service for top students and graduates, on the same terms as the first permit, in 48 hours, with a 180-day grace period after expiry or cancellation. The safe reading: renew before the expiry date, and expect to meet the same grade conditions again.
Who a student can sponsor
The student route is narrower than other golden routes on family:
- High school achievers can sponsor their parents only, not brothers or sisters.
- University students can sponsor a spouse and children, but only with an employment contract, a steady monthly income and housing, under the normal family sponsorship rules.
So a school leaver cannot bring siblings on their own golden visa. If the parents already sponsor the family, the usual family visa in Dubai rules still apply to the other children.
Time abroad
Students often study abroad after school. Golden residence holders are exempt from the 180-day rule that cancels an ordinary residence after a long absence. Keep an eye on the expiry date if you are away for a long degree, because the renewal rules for student permits conflict (see above), and you want time to renew before it runs out.
Applying in Dubai
You can apply on the GDRFA website or app around the clock with UAE Pass, or at an Amer center during its hours: take a ticket, hand in the complete file and pay. GDRFA gives 5 days for the first permit. For golden applicants outside the country, ICP issues a 6-month multiple-entry visa to finish the process, renewable once.
Where student files go wrong
- Graduation too long ago. The 2-year window is strict for graduates.
- Wrong university class. A 3.6 GPA is enough in Classification A but not in Classification B.
- No authentication. An unauthenticated certificate is not accepted.
- Ranking outside the top 100. For degrees from abroad, the Ministry-approved ranking is what counts.
- Residence from another emirate. GDRFA wants a Dubai residency file.
- Expecting to sponsor siblings. The school track allows parents only.
Doing it yourself
If you have the certificate, the authentication and the approval, the GDRFA application itself is short. Most of the work is upstream: getting the school or university paperwork right and the attestation done. For other golden routes, such as salary or property, see golden visa UAE.
Applying for a student golden visa through the team
Send the school certificate or degree, the transcript and the student's passport and residence copy. The partner team checks the grade, the university class or ranking and the 2-year window against the GDRFA rules. Most student files stall on authentication, with a certificate the ministry has not yet authenticated. They tell you what is missing, then type and submit the golden residence, book the medical if the student is 18 or over and the Emirates ID biometrics, and follow up to issue. Parents can go in the same request. You get one total price first, government fees and the service charge shown apart.
